Eastern Region

This region is most famous for John Cabot’s landfall in 1497 at Bonavista; the 1929 Tidal Wave at Burin; the 500-million-year-old fossils at Fortune and the ferry service to St. Pierre, Miquelon (France).

Other attractions include the Ye Matthew Legacy Interpretation Centre at Bonavista; a living history museum in Trinity; the Historic Lighthouse and Waterfront, and Seaman’s Museum and Memorial at Grand Bank; the Interpretation Centre of the Fortune Head Ecological Reserve and ferry service to Miquelon Islands (France) at Fortune; the Miner’s Memorial Museum and Echoes of Valour Memorial at St. Lawrence and the Heritage Museum and Tidal Wave Exhibit at Burin.
